We're talking about the Golden Rough, the Mint Pattie, and of course, the Kit Kat. A bit of history about the Kit Kat, if you will. Originating in Great Britain, Rowntree's of York was responsible for creating the light wafer treat covered in milk chocolate. The thing that really made the Kit Kat (or the Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp, as it was originally branded) stand out were the fingers - easy for breaking off and sharing with friends, if you're so inclined. It was marketed as a portable snack that a discerning man could take with him to work in his backpack. This was back in first half of the 1900's. The name Kit Kat was inspired by the mutton pies known as Kit Kats, served as a snack in London's Kit Cat Club. Rowntree's trademarked the name, but didn't rename the wildly successful Chocolate Crisp until 1937. The rest, as they say, is history. The Kit Kat reached the land down under in the 1940's, and Australians went wild. Not to mention the rest of the world. Approximately one billion Kit Kats are consumed per year all around the world.
